I spent Wednesday of this week at my son’s school.  I was a guest speaker for all the 8th grade writing classes.  That morning before he got on the bus he informed me that, because I was speaking in his class, this was the worst day of his life.

Throughout the day, I shared with the classes about the process of writing and publishing a book.  As I talked about some of the initial steps of publishing, I mentioned that I have an agent.  (I learned early in the writing process that a literary agent helps make my life much easier.)

Apparently Austin didn’t know this.

Driving home after my day at his school, my 13-year-old said, “Mom, I didn’t know you have an agent. That is intense, Mom. Way intense…you need to tell me these things.”

In the span of about 7 hours I went from being the most embarrassing person in his life to being someone he can brag about.

Ah…the joys of having a teenager.
