Mark and I are tucked away from technology for the remainder of this week enjoying some time with our family. This will be a short post from my phone.
We hiked today at Turkey Run State Park. I worked hard to be a “Yes Mom” when the boys wanted to climb rocks and explore.
How are you doing this week on being a “yes mom?”
In a rare outing alone with my preschooler, I forced myself to slow down and let him take the lead for once. We were at a local forest preserve and wildlife rescue, and we took our time with each thing. My tendency is to rush, or he gets rushed by his big brothers. The smile on his face when I said, "Sure. We can sit and watch these turtles for awhile" was priceless. YES! 🙂
My four year old son loves to picnic in the backyard for lunch. I'm not a big fan of hauling food outside, sitting on a blanket in the hot weather swatting bugs! But this week, I said "yes". TWICE! After we finished our food, I laid under the tree enjoying a God-given breeze while my kids giggled and wrestled. They had fun, and I was surprisingly refreshed! We even got Dad to join us 🙂
So convicted about saying YES…this week we have had a tea party, swimming races, and popsicle-tongue photos (hmm…don't ask!)…thanks, Jill!
just last night we got home well past bedtime from visiting our new niece. when we pulled in the driveway our four year old from the backseat says 'mom look fireflies. can we catch some' and i said yes. the four of us spent the next 10 minutes chasing and catching fireflies. awesome way to end the day!
Last night when it started to rain, I said yes to the kids when they wanted to go play in it. My kids and 2 of my nieces were out in the rain for about 30 minutes. They had a blast! I'm glad I said yes instead of worrying about getting everybody dried afterward. It was rewarding.
