Welcome to those of you visiting for the first time from Lysa Terkeurst’s blog. Lysa and I are similar in our style of just being honest about life. I hope you’ll subscribe to my blog today so I can get to know you better!
The discussion at Lysa’s blog today is about my new book Real Moms…Real Jesus (see below about the online book discussion starting in 3 weeks!) is about how we often define ourselves by our children’s behavior. This past weekend I talked about that to the 4700 moms who attended the National Hearts at Home conference in Illinois. After a challenging year with one of our children, I’ve had to come to understand this truth: it’s far more often about bad choices than bad parenting. God gives our children free will just like he gives us free will.
You and I need a better measuring stick to determine our value than our child’s behavior. We have to be defined by the God who created us and loves us more than we can ever imagine! And He never changes! He’s the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Our child’s behavior changes by the day, by the hour, and even by the minute.
Sometimes we try to put our value in other things like the house we live in, the job we have, the clothes we wear, the degrees we have, the job our husband has, the car we drive….the list can go on and on! But again, those can change in a heartbeat.
Our God never changes.
When you and I are in a relationship with the real Jesus, we are defined by his love and grace.
And that, my friend, never changes.
Hi there… I come from Lysa’s blog. I am going to enjoy your blog, I can just tell. We had an incident yesterday at home with our almost 8 yr old. It was sooooo frustrating. But this morning it was like she did a 360, so it was funny that you said “they change by day, hour, minute” Its sooo true!!
Thanks,
Alyce
I just came from Lysa’s blog too. You are a God send – literally! I’m interesting in becoming a stay-at-home mom and found your blog and book to be exactly what I need at this time. Thanks so much!
Oh Sweet Sister…
Truer words about motherhood were never spoken.
What a blessing you are to so many of us!
as we move from winter to spring, i’m reminded of God’s consistancy. my never changing God is always there, even in the midst of the changes going on around me!
Jill, love the “realness” of yourblog. Thank you for sharing! Blessings!!
well i really like the way to write. May God Bless you. Can you write some thing about child character education.
I can see that we have a lot in common so I decided to subscribe! I just found your blog through the preacher’s wife blog.So funny how one place leads to another…kinda like my thoughts when I’m doing something I need to do around the house…but find myself doing another thing instead! I’m glad to find your ministry and look forward to reading more!
