If someone asked if you wanted to make a difference in the world, I imagine your answer would be an enthusiastic, “Yes!” However, the truth is we often get caught up in work demands, home responsibilities, cranky attitudes, challenging people, and exhaustion. All of these things keep us from seeing opportunities to show love to others.

But what if living and loving well weren’t accomplished in the big things but rather in the smallest acts of kindness? What if we were able to make small tweaks to our routine that would make a big impact? That’s what we are talking about today with my friend, Becky Kopitzke! Becky is a wife, mother, and author of three books including Love Because: How to Change the World One Blessing at a Time.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • What stops us from noticing opportunities to show kindness to others
  • Why what we are full of is what will come out of us
  • Some practical steps you can take to cultivate kindness on a daily basis

loved this practical conversation with Becky, and I know you will too! Listen in!

My Key Takeaways:

1) We have to practice thinking of others first. This doesn’t come naturally! Our first instinct as humans is to think about how things will impact our day, our attitude, and how much energy it will take from us. If you want to start becoming aware of opportunities to show kindness, you have to start with intentionally adjusting how quickly you jump to your instinct to think about yourself.

2) Plan ahead to leave margin for kindness. If you, like me, are always rushing to and fro in order to get from one task to the next, you are going to be more prone to lash out at those “in your way” of getting those tasks done. However, when you are intentional to build some margin in your schedule, you are more likely to start viewing people as an opportunity rather than as an interruption. This was a great reminder for me!

3) Don’t miss the small stuff. There are many ways that you can show kindness to others. The ones that can come to mind first are the big gestures, but it is often the smallest acts of kindness that have the greatest impact. Those small acts of kindness may look like thanking the grocery store clerk by name, being generous with what we have, helping your spouse with the chores, or being extra kind with the customer service agent. There are so many small ways you can create BIG differences in the world!
