If you’re familiar with the journey Mark and I have walked together, then you know that I spent a year “standing for my marriage” while Mark had an affair and separated. (You can explore more about our story here.) It was the darkest season of my life—and also the season that produced the most personal, emotional, and spiritual growth I’ve ever experienced.
My guest for this conversation has a similar story. Jason Carver is a pastor and the founder of Standing Supernaturally For Marriage Restoration Ministry. He has served in various pastoral roles in the church for over 35 years and is also a Certified Christian Counselor through the National Association of Christian Counselors.

My Key Takeaways:
1) Hold on to hope. One of the greatest tools to save your marriage is hope. For Mark and I, a lack of hope that things could ever get better was one of the big factors that lead to our temporary separation. To get back on the right path, we needed to find genuine hope for the future once again. Hope is a powerful motivator. It can push us to make the necessary changes to be further sanctified.
2) Take an honest look at your faults. We like to say that we each brought baggage into our marriage. We are all human, and as such, we will struggle with sin, respond poorly to our spouse, and bring our own dysfunction to the relationship. Before we can restore our marriage, we have to get real with ourselves and let God heal us.
3) Be cautious about making an idol of your marriage. We can easily fall into the trap of worshiping the idea of saving our marriage, rather than worshiping the one who has the power to save it. I can’t tell you whether or not Jesus will save, heal, or restore your relationship. I wish I could! What I can tell you is the value of making Jesus your anchor. You will never regret doing the work of righting your relationship with him!
