Life can be full of uncertainty. Whether it’s moving to a new city, starting a new job, or walking through a difficult time, we don’t always know how things will work out in the end. When that happens, we can feel frozen by fear and unsure of what our next step should be.

Thankfully, my friend Katie Reid knows what it’s like to face uncertainty and has some helpful encouragement for us. Katie is a Bible teacher, author, podcaster, pastor’s wife, worship leader, and mom. She recently released her latest book, God, What Do I Do?: A Bible Study on Judges 1–5 About Making Wise Decisions in Uncertain Times.

Katie has said that some of the best decisions she’s ever made include following Jesus, marrying her husband, and becoming a mom to five kids. She brings such a steady, grace-filled voice into conversations like this one.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • How to get unstuck in your decision-making
  • Six decisions you can make even when the future feels unclear
  • Where to turn when you are facing hard circumstances
  • And more!

Katie is a dear friend, and it’s always a joy to have her share her wisdom on the podcast.

My Key Takeaways:

1) Uncertainty is something we will all face. There will be times when life feels smooth, but that’s never a guarantee. Life is messy and imperfect. Things come our way that we didn’t plan for. I’ve walked through plenty of seasons that turned everything upside down. In those moments, I felt stuck and afraid, unsure how to move forward. When you find yourself in a season of uncertainty, find comfort in the fact that you are not alone—and this too shall pass.

2) Choose to remember God’s faithfulness. While we may not know how things will turn out, we can look back and remember where God has already shown up. In the Old Testament, God’s people built altars to remind them of His faithfulness. We need that too. For some, it might be journaling. For others, it could be a handmade reminder on the wall. The point is to create something that says, “Look at what God did for me. He was faithful then. He protected me. He will continue to show up.”

3) You were never meant to do life alone. This truth goes all the way back to the beginning of the Bible, where God said it’s not good for man to be alone. We were created for community. When life feels uncertain, one of the most important things you can do is seek out wise, godly voices. People who have walked through something similar. People who can listen, pray, and help you navigate what’s next.
