If your point is right, but the tone of your voice is wrong – then you are wrong and you just missed your opportunity to make your point!

Oh, yes. everyday.
James 1:20 “For the wrath of [Mom] does not bring about the righteousness of God.” Brilliant! My getting mad accomplishes NOTHING for His kingdom.
also memorizing 2 Tim 2:24
“And a servant of the Lord must NOT QUARREL, but BE GENTLE TO ALL, able to teach, patient, IN HUMILITY correcting those who are in opposition [my children!].” I have literally been repeating this verse to myself when I get angry or frustrated, before I go to my children to correct them, to try to remember to be patient, etc. It’s amazing how much better they respond when I can remember to be calm. (I have messed up a lot, so I know how they respond when I am angry!)
Great quote! I’m always working on this. I realize that a lot is linked to my stress level so I’m working on that too.
Wow, that rings very true. I definitely need to work on this, especially with my husband. This is a quote I need to post where I can read it frequently until I can take more ownership of it. Thank you!
Jill,
Thanks so much for all that you do! I have so many of your messages posted around my kitchen – this one is the newest addition. I remind myself to “Stop, Look, Listen” all the time – it really helps. Your books, My Heart’s at Home and Got Teens? are two of my very favorite – both have been read several times and are referred to often.

Lori, I’m so glad to hear that!
Oh my!!!! hahaah AMEN to thet one Sister!! Somtimes I think you are speaking directly to me!!!! Have a wonderful day!!!! Barb wall
I’ve tried to use a polite tone over and over…and with some people that doesn’t sink in. While an abrupt tone is never ideal, sometimes it is the only thing some people hear.
Sometimes we have to be firm, Ruth. I agree. But more often than not, our tone of voice gets us in trouble.
AND often our point will come across better and more clear if we SAY LESS…
So often your posts give me just what I need to hear! Thank you!
It is now 2 am and I stumbled upon your site. WOW, did the quote smack me in the face. Had a rough day with my 18 year old and still didn’t get my point across….Thank you!!
Hang in there, Barbara. We’re all working on this!
