I spent Wednesday of this week at my son’s school. I was a guest speaker for all the 8th grade writing classes. That morning before he got on the bus he informed me that, because I was speaking in his class, this was the worst day of his life.
Throughout the day, I shared with the classes about the process of writing and publishing a book. As I talked about some of the initial steps of publishing, I mentioned that I have an agent. (I learned early in the writing process that a literary agent helps make my life much easier.)
Apparently Austin didn’t know this.
Driving home after my day at his school, my 13-year-old said, “Mom, I didn’t know you have an agent. That is intense, Mom. Way intense…you need to tell me these things.”
In the span of about 7 hours I went from being the most embarrassing person in his life to being someone he can brag about.
Ah…the joys of having a teenager.
That IS funny! Bless him!

That is funny!! It is hard as moms when we want to stay involved and connected with our kids we come to that point when we are an embarrassment. I am glad he took the time to see who you were outside of being "his mom" and expressed that to you! Yes…..teenagers, keep us laughing and wondering!
Thanks for sharing. Teenagers are puzzling and so much fun! I love mine.
What a cute story! You really do need to tell him these things!!!
