This year’s Hearts at Home conference theme is “Moms the Word.” We’ll be looking at both the positive and the negative power of our words. (If you haven’t registered yet, you can do that here!)
One of the fun things we’re doing throughout the conference is sharing “made up” words that include the word “mom” to describe things that moms do or experience.
For instance:
- a “momsicle” is a mom who sits on the side-lines of too many late autumn soccer games.
- Momotonous – when a mom catches herself saying the same things over and over because NO ONE IS LISTENING TO HER!
- Momcation: this is what a mom gets when she comes to Hearts at Home!
As we prepare for the conference, we need more words! I know you are some of the most creative people in this world.
Please send me your MOM words and their definitions!
"Momdate" — like a playdate for the kids, but it's for moms.
"Momzilla" — who comes out when someone messes with one of you kids.
"Mom"ocking – the rocking motion we find ourselves doing even when we are not holding a baby:)
"Mom"evotion – the precious time Moms spend with God and peering into their children's eyes:)

Mom Words
Momversate–what moms do when they get together
Momversations–conversations moms enjoy when they get together (with or without their children)
Momism. That word or phrase that you say to your kids all the time. I find myself telling my kids, "I can only do 12 things at once". I also say things like, "let's rock and roll" which my daughter now quotes as well. My mom has dozens that my sister and I constantly quote and laugh about. I did a blog post about it, http://follyandcrisis.blogspot.com/2009/01/momisms.html. My mom famously says things like, "I don't know what to tell you…" and "I did what I had to do" and my personal favorite, "you had to be there."
Momma-drama…this can happen when moms aren't always kind to each other.
When I first read this I thought, "Well, now that is cute but I don't know any." Then today at my son's basketball game I did the "Mom Clap" you know, the one when you only have one free hand because the other one is holding another child so you just clap on your leg, knee, or whatever!
Momdane…the chores we do day-in and day-out with litte-to-no recoginition.
