So I started running last week. That would be walking/running right now. But I’m working toward no walking in the future.
I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with exercise. I hate making the time for it. I love how I feel when I’m exercising on a regular basis.
I have more energy. I eat better. I fit into my clothes better.
With my new running habit, I’m learning to love my iPod. I stick on my headphones, crank up the worship songs, and head out for 20-30 minutes.
Last week, however, I had to call my adult son after my run:
- Me: Evan when I’m running I can’t keep my iPod on the same songs. It keeps shuffling the songs.
- Evan: Mom, go into “settings” and turn the “Shake to Shuffle” option off.
- Me: Ohhhhhhhhh. Thank you!
What about you? How do you find time for exercise? What is your exercise of choice?
Running surprisingly turned into my choice of exercise about 7 years ago. I enjoy the time to clear my head and spend time alone with God. I like to sign up for 5K runs every couple of months to keep me motivated, too. Good for you!
Once school started I wanted to get back at so I am doing the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred & walking 20 minute. I like the DVD because it tones & strengthens. I feel alot better for sure. So as soon as the boys get on the bus I do it right away. My cool down is sitting & reading one of my parenting books. Your Boy by Vicki Courtney is what I am on now. Love it!
That is funny! Yes, I know the same feeling when I am in a program it does wonders for my spirit, my mood and my family's mood! LOL
I get up early before my 4 children even think about stirring and run. I love the time to analyze, plan my day and enjoy the world around me as the night turns into day.
I have also been walking/running and I use that time to focus on prayer and build my self esteem by saying – you can do this (especially when I want to quit) – I started having my time with God after I had the same problem with the iPod as you were having and I decided my frusteration wasn't worth it. Keep up the good work!
I started walk/running 4 1/2 years ago and (2) 8Ks, (5) 1/2 marathons and (2) full marathons later I am a full-fledged runner. It has helped me through a divorce, given me some quiet time with God, and my teenage kids get a kick out of coming to my "athletic events" after all the years of watching them play sports! I have made wonderful new friendships in the running community, and when I run by myself I listen to songs on my iPod from all my favorite artists I hear on K-LOVE. I am fortunate to live at the beach, so running on the boardwalk in the morning and seeing the rays of light push through the clouds fills me with the warmth of God's love. What a great way to start the day!
A year ago I began attending a MOPS group. While I was there one of the girls (who ended up being a dear friend to me) encouraged all of us to get up and get moving, more specifically get walking or RUNNING! A year ago I couldn't imagine that I would EVER run or even ENJOY running! After a few months, I hopped onto my treadmill and gave it a try. Amazingly, I began to enjoy it! I didn't look at it as EXERCISE, I looked at it as "Time ALONE for me". Being the mommy to 3 kids, that ALONE time is very important. At one of our MOPS meetings we had a speaker come in and say "If you can not find 30 minutes, three times a week for YOU, then you need to sit down and re-evaluate your schedule." That advice couldn't have been more true!!!! I took it to heart, and worked with my husband to find a time that worked for ME to work out and he could help out w/ the kids. It has been GREAT, I'm not running marathons yet, but I feel so much better and my energy level is much higher! I feel like I can tackle my day!!!!!
I love to run…actually signed up for my first 5K next Saturday morning!
Great insight, all!
I loved this statement: "If you cannot find 30 minutes, three times a week for YOU, then you need to sit down and re-evaluate your schedule!"
What wisdom!
