Tradition #2: After the birthday person goes to sleep on the night before their birthday, we sneak into their room and decorate with streamers and balloons. We also make a waterfall of streamers that hang in their doorway so they have to walk through them every time they go in and out of their room. When they wake up in the morning, the first thing they see is the room decorations and they are reminded that today is their special day!
Post your birthday traditions to win your choice of a Hearts at Home book! Make sure and include your email address in your post so I can contact you if you win!
We celebrate the birthday WEEK. Hey, Christmas has 12 days, why can’t birthdays have seven?
We do something small every day leading up to the birthday like notes in lunch boxes, their favorite meal every night (with my son we eat pancakes every night for a week!), a movie night or a game of their choosing. It’s not really *what* we do but that we’re doing it in their honor.
It is very effective in making the birthday boy/girl feel special. I know I love my birthday week! :o)
Birthdays in our house start off with a birthday hunt! The night before once the birthday person is asleep, I hide all the presents around the living area of our home & write a poem containing clues to each gift (age appropriate clues!) We decorate & put a streamer across the hallway, so that in the morning no one is allowed in that area until everyone is up & then the birthday person breaks the streamer & I read out the clues & they find each gift!
We also put balloons in their bedroom!
We have started the tradition of decorating the birthday kids room the night before. I read it in a great book somewhere and LOVED the idea! (Hmmm, I wonder what book that was) I kid. We stole the idea from you.
This year for the boys’ birthday, I let Mya help me decorate their room. It made it extra fun!
