1) Remember the goodness of God. You don’t have to live in a fantasy to experience spontaneity and whimsy. These concepts are rooted in returning to a child-like faith. Pursuing whimsy in this way is purposeful and incredibly fulfilling. It creates delight and helps us to remember how good God is in our lives.
2) Start with curiosity. A big part of uncovering hidden joy in your life can be boiled down to remaining curious about the world around you. Ask yourself questions about your environment, your spouse, and the way you do things. If you make breakfast before you go to work, how did you pick those items? When was the last time you asked your spouse why they prefer certain things, or what their favorite color is? There are so many interesting things in life to discover if you only start looking for them.
3) Anyone can be whimsical! You don’t have to be completely carefree or careless in order to be whimsical. There is a misconception that to be whimsical, we have to be disconnected from reality. That isn’t the case. To be whimsical, all you have to do is focus on the things that matter and devise a strategy to delight in them.
