Have you been called shy or quiet before? Or perhaps you’ve considered yourself a “wallflower.” The truth is that we all have felt like we couldn’t find our place at one time or another. We may have even been labeled as one of these things by others and then struggled to overcome that label.

The truth is that labels create limitations. This is why I’m eager to have Cally Logan on the podcast today. She is the author of The Wallflower That Bloomed: Finding Your Place at the Lunch Table of Life and wants to invite you to unleash the God-given potential inside you, step into the fullness of who you are, and embrace the brilliance that is inside of you.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • What it means to be a wallflower
  • How to break free from the labels that society places on us
  • Steps to discover your authentic self
  • And so much more!

I hope this conversation inspires you to discard your artificial self and discover the real you!

My Key Takeaways:

1) Everyone is searching for a place to belong. It’s not just “wallflowers” who feel shy, awkward, or excluded from time to time. There are moments we each have experienced when we didn’t know where we belonged. It can feel isolating and lonely to not know your place in life or a social setting.

2) Start by finding your identity in Christ. Before we can discover our authentic selves, we need to shed the “artificial self” we have created due to trying to live up to society’s standards or mislabeling. To do this, we need to return back to who God says we are and discover what makes us comfortable in our own skin as children of God. Our thoughts and beliefs about ourselves should be confirmed by our identity in Christ.

3) We can find freedom. It is not an easy process to sift, discern, and discard beliefs rooted in lies. However, on the other side of this hard work is a freedom and confidence to be had that is free from labels. Start by practicing regular, quiet reflection! I recommend pairing that with journaling and reading of Scripture to connect what God says about you to the thoughts and perspectives you need to shift.
