Understanding ourselves and understanding the way our children and grandchildren learn and process the world is so important. We’re all unique and interact with the world and others the way God made us.
The question isn’t, “Am I smart?” but rather, “How am I smart?” That’s what we’re discussing on this week’s episode of the No More Perfect Podcast. Dr. Kathy Koch is my guest and we’re discussing something she’s passionate about called the 8 Great Smarts.
With remote learning, an increase in homeschooling, and parents more involved in their children’s education than ever before, this is a timely subject. We talk through all eight smarts and how to engage a child in context of the smarts!
When I learned this, it was a game-changer for me as a parent. I’m now a better grandparent because I understand it!
Dr. Kathy was my co-author of No More Perfect Kids. She’s a wealth of wisdom for parents, grandparents, and anyone who works with children!

Jill and Kathy, thank you so much for such an informative podcast. I would love it if you would do another podcast where the focus would be on giving parents advice on what careers their child might pursue for each of the eight types of smart. For example, my 17-year old son is artistic and loves math and video games, but those are not my strengths, so I am unsure how to encourage and guide him in choosing a career path. I want my child to be his best self, but since his interests are not mine, it is hard to help him plan for his future. I look forward to this hopefully becoming another podcast to listen to very soon.
Great idea, Kim! I’ll share the idea with Dr. Kathy and see what she thinks! UPDATED: She has a resource for this:Kim–She has that resource! You can find it here: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/56c64147c2ea51dc7a21d1bf/t/56e841cb8259b579288aa87c/1458061772215/MP_8GS_careerDownload_2016.pdf
