What does your morning routine look like? A typical morning may look like rolling out of bed, getting ready, and grabbing breakfast to feed your body before you tackle the day. But how often do you prioritize feeding your soul as well as your physical body?
My guest for this conversation discovered that there is no better way to start her day than by sitting with Jesus. Tera Elness is a writer and a speaker. In her first book, Sitting with Jesus: A Yearlong Faith Journey, each individual entry is a glimpse into her personal journal as she shares with God and about God.
In this episode, you’ll hear:
- The importance of opening God’s Word
- What your time with God could look like
- How Tera uses 80s music to deliver a biblical message
- And more!
If you long to have vibrant, personal, and fulfilling moments connecting with our Heavenly Father, you won’t want to miss this conversation with my friend Tera.

My Key Takeaways:
1) Start by sharing consistent time with God. In our conversation, Tera explained that a good starting place for building a relationship with Jesus is adopting a daily Bible reading plan. This is because when you first start out, building the habit of spending time with God is more important than what you do during that time. So grab your favorite beverage, designate a spot in your home or a pick specific chair you like to sit in, and plan a time every day that you can spend time feeding your soul.
2) Anticipate how God will work in your life. Are you familiar with the term BOLO? It stands for “be on the lookout”. Law enforcement uses this term to make people aware of what they need to keep an eye out for. In the same way, when we are on the lookout for how God will work in our lives, something amazing happens: we start to notice all the ways He already has been at work!
3) Each person’s time with the Father will be different. Some people like to share the first cup of coffee in the morning with Jesus, while others will prefer tea! If mornings are difficult for your family’s schedule, you may decide that an afternoon or evening quiet time is better. There is no set structure or time that is the “right” way to start this practice, so you have the freedom to discover what works best for you.
