On Thursday I had one of the nicest birthday’s I remember having in a long time. There was nothing particularly spectacular about the day…rather it was filled with some of the simple things in life.

When Mark asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday, the first thing I thought was that I wanted to sleep in late! Mark agreed to get the kids off to school and let me sleep. I didn’t wake up until 10:30am!

When I awoke I found this simple message left by Austin:

Then I met my girlfriends Becky and Tonya for lunch at a favorite restaurant, Biaggi’s. We enjoyed a nearly 3 hour lunch!

Mark called and said he’d pick up the boys from school so I could use the afternoon however I wanted. So I did a little shopping…I had some birthday money, you know!

Once home, Mark had picked up a pizza for dinner and Evan and Julie came over for dinner. We ended up playing the game Apples To Apples late into the night. The only thing that would have made it better is for Matt and Anne to have been able to enjoy the evening with us.

No expensive gifts or forms of entertainment were needed. It was the simple things in life that made the day perfect!

Tonight we carried on the simple theme. I taught Austin how to play jacks. No technology necessary. No electricity needed. Just a bouncing ball and a handful of jacks. We laughed and had a great time.

Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that bring the most joy.

What simple things do you enjoy the most?
