Mark: Are you looking for something unique to do as a couple? What about something to do with your kids or grandkids this summer? Jill: In celebration of our upcoming 35th wedding anniversary (and we all know what a big deal that is!), Mark and I have set out to try our best to get 35 kids sponsored by our June 25th anniversary date! That would bless our socks off if we knew that 35 kids had food, medical care, education, and the opportunity to learn about Jesus in honor of our milestone anniversary.
Mark: This week, we’ll be sharing our own Compassion story. How we got started and what we’ve experienced being a Compassion sponsor for over 10 years.
Jill: Compassion is something Mark and I do together. We take turns writing our little guy in Honduras. We pray for him. We send a little extra money (like $25) to make sure he gets something special for his birthday and Christmas.
Mark: However, it’s us who are blessed. We LOVE getting his letters. His picture is on our refrigerator as well as some of the pictures he draws for us and sends with his letters. We get to tell him how much God loves him and has a plan for his life. We tell him how much we believe in him. We love knowing that we’re making a difference in his life. $38 a month blesses him and blesses us in huge ways!
Jill: We’re dubbing this week “Compassion week” on the blog. I’ve had the chance to see Compassion’s work first-hand with trips to both El Salvador and Tanzania. I’ll be sharing my experiences on each of those trips and lessons God taught me as I stepped out of my comfort zone each time.
Mark: Would you consider honoring our 35 years of marriage by sponsoring a child who desperately needs to know someone cares and believes in him or her? If you’re already sponsoring a child, do you have room for one more?
