Roosters, candy canes, thermometers, and antifungal cream.

These are just a few of the ordinary items we saw God use in extraordinary ways during our time in Uganda this February.

This journey of our ministry in Africa, which began with an untied shoelace on an Alabama sidewalk, continues to unfold in ways Mark and I never could have imagined. To hear how it all began, you can listen to Episode 135 and 210. Today, Mark and I are grateful and excited to share this special episode where we recap some of the highlights and God stories from our third and most recent trip to Uganda. Best of all, you get to hear from three of the team members who made the journey with us.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Our team’s biggest takeaways from experiencing life in Uganda
  • How the school we’ve been building blew our expectations away
  • The God story of a big need met through a simple Amazon wishlist
  • And more!

Our Key Takeaways:

1) Joy does not require an abundance of wealth or possessions. Even though this was our third time in Uganda, Mark and I were so moved once again by the joy and generosity we encountered. Our team members were also struck by the gratitude and kindness expressed by all the individuals we visited. After experiencing life in Uganda, we all have a different perspective about what American culture defines as “needs.”

2) God uses his people to meet needs. The Life 2.0 Foundation bridges the gap between needs our team has identified in Africa and people who can help us meet them. We work directly with our partners in Africa to transform every dollar given into tremendous impact for the organizations we support. For example, this year alone, we provided $2,000 worth of essential medications and supplies to help stock a local medical clinic that we built, along with additional items donated through our Amazon list—things that might seem simple here, like boxes of antifungal cream. But when the clinic’s doctor saw these supplies, he was overwhelmed with gratitude. What might feel like an “extra” to us can make a profound difference in someone else’s daily life.

3) God can use your small “yes” in big ways! Barb’s willingness to say “yes” to pursuing personal growth led to the idea for Mark and I to launch our Transform weekends, which have impacted so many people. Debbie and Dennis said “yes” to traveling to Uganda, which led to them becoming the answer to our prayer for another couple to share our coaching ministry. Our listeners said “yes” when we asked for help stocking our Amazon wishlist with supplies to meet needs in Uganda…we could go on and on! The point is, when you have the courage to say what feels like a small “yes” to God, don’t underestimate the power of what He can do in the bigger picture. He is good. His hand is mighty. And His knowledge far surpasses what we see!
