You may recall that Mark and I are doing marriage training in Uganda for pastors and their wives. In case you missed it, you can hear the whole story here in Episode 135: To Uganda with Love. To make sure you continue to receive encouragement and value for your everyday life, we’ve pre-recorded a few podcast episodes for you! To follow along with our trip, head over to Facebook and Instagram. We would love it if you would join us in prayer during our trip as well!

Since our marriage crisis 11 years ago, Mark and I refer to ourselves as “Mark & Jill 2.0” and that’s because we are very different people than we were in our 1.0 status. So what was that journey from 1.0 to 2.0 like? Well, we dug in, we found our hidden heart issues, and we realized how much they were sabotaging our lives and relationship. Then, we did the work to heal those issues.

This journey of healing is one that many of us need to take, but few of us understand why or even the huge difference it can make in our lives. I’ve asked my friend, Annette Chesney, to help us unpack this topic. Annette works closely with women to repair their hearts, rediscover their best selves, and reawaken their powerful purpose as they create a beautiful life of their design.

In this conversation, you’ll hear:

  • Three hidden heart issues that may be sabotaging your life
  • What happens when we have unmet needs
  • Some steps you can take to start the process of healing
  • And much more!

Listen in as Annette helps us uncover three major hidden heart issues that could be sabotaging your life!

My Key Takeaways:

1) We all have places that God is inviting us to heal. There are no perfect people. We are all broken whether that be from our childhoods, life experiences, or simply from being sinful people living in a broken world. God is inviting us into those areas of pain and hurt to bring about healing.

2) The enemy exploits our fears. That’s right! The crafty enemy, Satan, preys on our fears. He is looking for ways that he can align people and circumstances in the future to drive a false message home in our souls. We can’t stuff our fears into a box and think they will magically go away. We need to face our fears and bring them to the Lord.

3) Self-awareness is the start of change. It takes work to dig into your hidden heart issues and it all starts by taking time to sit with the Lord. Practice regular time being still before the Lord. It might be a good idea to keep a journal handy to write down how God may be leading you to act. It’s also helpful to note and process how you feel on paper to uncover patterns that point to specific areas you need to pay attention to.
