Are you feeling disconnected? Struggling to know the next steps to find your tribe of people? I was what you might consider a “late bloomer” when it comes to female relationships. I never seemed to click with the whole girlfriend thing and it wasn’t until I became a mom that I had a strong desire to spend time with other women that knew what I was going through.

Now I’m so personally passionate about the topic of friendships and belonging that I spent an entire year writing a book on it! The result was my Better Together book.

My friend, Katy McCown, is joining me today to talk about all things belonging, friendship, and community! Katy recently released her own Bible study about belonging titled She Belongs: Finding Your Place in the Body of Christ. She is an author, speaker, podcaster, mom, and wife to former NFL quarterback Luke McCown.

In this conversation, you’ll hear:

  • What it means to belong
  • The importance of intentionally investing in one another
  • The biblical benefits of belonging
  • And much more!

This is a topic that is near and dear to me, and I know you’ll benefit from this conversation!

My Key Takeaways:

1) We were designed to belong. We were never meant to go through life without community. We sometimes are afraid of opening ourselves up to find belonging because that also means opening up to potential rejection. However, God designed us to thrive and be stronger when we are together. It is when we find our place of belonging that we can lean on one another and bear each other’s burdens.

2) Finding your place takes investment. To go beyond casual friendships, we have to be willing to go deeper and invest in one another. It’s alright to start small by simply answering the question “How are you?” a little more honestly. A good first step might be to ask for prayer in a general way that reveals more about what you are going through.

3) It’s worth it. It’s true that in order to have community, it takes planning and sometimes sacrifice to prioritize it, but I promise it is worth it! When we find our place, we get connection, the ability to give back to others, the ability to receive, a sounding board, the wisdom and experience of others, and so much more.
