Today I want to let you in on a little secret! I want to tell you the #1 myth people often have about marriage seminars (and honestly, marriage resources in general). But first I’ll start with a story…

Earlier this spring, we were teaching our No More Perfect Marriages Seminar at a church in Illinois. On one of the breaks we were chatting with a couple who had come because their marriage was going through a hard season.

They mentioned that they had panicked when they saw their pastor and his wife attending the seminar.

Why?

Because they thought you only went to marriage seminars when your marriage was in trouble.

When they saw their pastor and his wife, they made assumptions. They wrongly thought they were attending because their marriage was struggling. However, halfway through the seminar they began to see the error of their thinking. They had believed the myth that you only invest in your marriage when there’s a problem. They believed that investing in resources for the health of a marriage were for couples who are struggling.

This isn’t true at all!

It’s certainly wise to seek help if things are hard, but it’s even wiser to keep growing, learning, and investing in your marriage when things are going well!

Marriage seminars bring hope to hurting marriages and they strengthen healthy marriages.

If you’ve never considered attending a marriage seminar because it hasn’t felt like you’ve ever “needed” one, or like your marriage wasn’t doing “that bad,” I want to invite you to break that myth today. I’ve shared this quote quite a bit on the blog, but the old adage that “if you’re not rowing, you’re drifting” is very true in marriage. The strongest marriages are the ones who are committed to actively rowing together, who refuse to settle into drifting.

They want to learn.

They want to push against the slow fades in their relationship.

They want to grow in how they communicate with their spouse.

They want to remain unified in where their marriage is headed.

Do you desire those things, too?

This Fall we are hosting a first-ever No More Perfect Marriages Getaway Weekend and it’s in one of our favorite getaway locations: Holland, Michigan! (I shared a sneak peek of the location over on Instagram!)

The No More Perfect Marriages seminar runs Friday evening on September 30 and Saturday, October 1. For the first time ever, we are also offering an optional add-on day of sessions on Sunday, October 2 for those in or approaching the empty nest season of life.

If you’d like to row together in marriage, I’d love to invite you to find out more info and register here.

This is a great way to prioritize your marriage and I hope you can make plans for this getaway weekend for two!

We’d love to have you join us!
