How do you rebuild trust when it’s broken? In this episode, Mark and I tackle the question we’re asked ALL. THE. TIME.
We’re digging into rebuilding trust in a variety of relationships…not just marriage. After all, we deal with broken trust in parent/child relationships, friendships, extended family, and, of course, marriage.
The formula for rebuilding trust is this: changed behavior over time rebuilds trust. What does that practically look like, though? Join us in this episode where we dig into seven practical steps to rebuild trust and a whole new way of looking at accountability.
7 Steps to Rebuild Trust
- Get to the heart of your behaviors (what led to the broken trust in the first place).
Ask and answer questions
- Respect one another
- Offer accountability
- Forgive, and forgive, and forgive some more
- Watch your expectations
- Balance risk with hope

I needed & appreciated so much this podcast today. My relationship with my daughter has become fractured over time. It seem irreparable and my “flesh screams” to just give up. Im a believer & live Christian worldview, whereas she is not saved & has very strong worldview, doesnt know what she believes about God. Due to my malignant brain cancer I was basically forced to move in with her, my son in law & two TEEN grandgirls. I am isolated, disrespected & kept on fringes of their lives. I pay her rent, do laundry, take care of multiple pets & household when they’re off to lake, beach, mountains, holiday family get-togethers. Trust issues began early on with my daughter & still exist today seeing how she relates to me, her spouse & teens. I surely could have used these steps!
My son lives with much older woman & her 2 teens, rarely see him or get to talk to him and he lives close by. I want to live out my life reflecting His unconditional love. Ive literally placed on the altar my “need for family” so I’m free of any idols, unrealistic expectations. I keep praying for a breakthtough.
Christie, I’m so sorry for the broken relationships. You’re doing what you need to be doing by keeping your heart free of idols and untangled from bitterness.
